You know how there is a thread on the bottom of the dress holding the pleats together with basting stitches? Is that supposed to stay there, or am I supposed to take it off? Because it seems like the dress would fit better without it.
Thanks!

Often on "better clothing" - especially on wool suits and coats - pleats will be basted together at the bottom of the garment and pockets will be basted closed just to hold their shape until being purchased. Those basting threads are meant to be removed by the customer after purchase - kind of like those tags that read "Do not remove this tag under penalty of law" and then in the fine print "except by consumer"! Whoa, I wasn't sure if you were supposed to remove them either! But they have remained for about 12 years, but now I think I will take them out.

Oh, thank you! I will take them out then. You'd think this would have occured to me before, since I've had the dress for 7 years, but I didn't think of it till a few days ago.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I don't think my Sam school dress doesn't have a thread holding the pleats together. What does it look like? Is it on the outside or inside?

There on the outside and little hard to see. They're ones on her Winter Party Dress as well. They look like they belong but removoing them makes the dress fit better. I didn't even notice it myself until I was putting on Samantha's Winter Party dress and it broke.

My Samantha's school dress came with the thead but the Winter Party dress did not. Hmm... Who knows. It's a little loose white thread sewn through the pleats in the skirt to keep them together neatly. It should slide right out if you snip it. I think the skirts hang a little better once you take it out.
